Neuropsychological evaluations generally measures many areas of functioning, including intelligence, achievement, sensory and motor function, memory, auditory and visual processing, language, and problem solving. By assessing these many areas of functioning, a neuropsychological evaluation can provide a map of a child’s strengths and weaknesses for future treatment planning.
Neuropsychological testing is very useful with individuals who experience some type of traumatic brain injury or children who are experiencing developmental delays, attention deficits and /or learning disabilities. A full neuropsychological battery is generally very comprehensive and includes testing from a number of the previously described assessments.
In addition to cognitive and educational testing that has been described elsewhere, neuropsychological evaluations might include a range of tests such as The Rey Complex Figure Test, Rey Auditory and Verbal Learning Test, NEPSY, Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF), Delis-Kaplan Executive Function System (D-KEFS), Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Wechsler Memory Scale – IV, Wide Range Assessment of Memory and Learning – 2 (WRAML-2), and STROOP Color and Word Test.
